It has been a heavy week. I hope you’re doing okay.
We have a couple of weddings coming up this summer and I am am planning to wear dresses I already own to them. I have these dresses that have just been sitting with no place to go for the last few years and am so excited to have the chance to break them out again. I actually have been wearing one of them on repeat just because. This one actually. I bought it last year for a wedding we sadly did not end up making it to. It is such a lovely dress. The thing I love most about it is how it can be dressed up or down. For my casual lifestyle at the moment I’ve been wearing it with sneakers or sandals and on cooler days my sherpa lined denim jacket. It is truly perfection. But I digress.
I used to be a big fan of higher heels and now, after two years of prioritizing flat shoes that I can slip on and go… Well, I may need to update my fancy footwear a smidge. So, since there are tons of blog posts, articles, and resources out there that cater to finding the perfect wedding guest dress, I figured since I am now searching for the perfect summer shoe that sharing my process might be fun.
When looking for shoes for a specific event I usually start at Net-A-Porter or Shopbop. Before you comment on budget, I do this to get some ideas. I like to look at different dresses and see how they’ve been styled. What kind of shoes are they pairing with their dresses? Maybe I’ll find a style I like that I would not have otherwise considered, or a fun color option. I think Net-A-Porter specifically is a great source of inspiration in this way. They often use a wide variety of options that are sometimes very unexpected, at least to me. Once I have my inspiration I set off on my search, starting with shops that fit within my budget.
What I think I’m looking for right now is a lower heel, no ankle straps, slide on if possible, in a neutral color but not necessarily nude. But, I don’t want them to be too fancy that I can’t wear them on a regular basis. Or too casual that they wouldn’t work for a nicer occasion. Luckily for me, I think this style is pretty popular right now so it should be available at all price points.
Shop my roundup so far below. And I will continue adding to it as I come across new styles!
