In Search of — The Everyday Bag

I am currently at the point in my pregnancy where I am not buying many things for myself. I’ve picked up a few items for the future here and there that I know will fit when the time for them comes, but it’s hard to shop for things you can’t wear. Maybe that is why I’ve launched myself straight into spring/summer mentally. Warm days ahead with baby in our arms, and the chaos that I’m sure will accompany playing keep away with a toddler and pup all day long, ha. Eleanor is so helpful at this age, loves playing with her babies, and has been very affectionate to the bump. I just know she is going to be the best big sister ever to this little one. But she is also going to want to be hands on in her helping, hence the anticipated chaos.

So what am I currently shopping for you ask? One thing that I have been needing and on the lookout for for quite some time is a new handbag for everyday. I tend to be drawn to bags best suited for warmer weather that end up being less transitional. I love a raffia bag, but they are not made for New York winters. I have however found so many good things while searching and wanted to share some of them here in a roundup incase you find yourself on a similar search.

My criteria: Not too big, not too small. Something that can hold all of the essentials plus a little bit more when needed. Ideally tan/brown or black, but would also consider cream. And is elegant enough to go almost anywhere.

Bags that have caught my eye…

Knotted shoulder bag — If I were commuting this would make the perfect work bag. It might make a good diaper bag with an insert too come to think of it. This bag is one that has stayed on my mind, I just love the knot detail. Just a note that I would not use this as an actual diaper bag. We really love our current one. I mean more for those times where you aren’t needing to bring much and end up throwing a few things in a tote.

Black crossbody — A timeless style if I ever did see one, and the hands free aspect is oh so important with little ones. Can make the day to night transition as well.

Cream bucket bag — I have been saving different variations of this bag since last summer at least. I think the cream color is my favorite and can make the transition from season to season. I love this one and think it would perfect year round. My only but is that it is open at the top.

Cream crossbody — Elegant, can make the transition from day to date night, zips closed. But can I fit a water bottle in it? And more importantly, do I need to, because where am I going that there won’t be water available when I get there?

Flap shoulder bag — Simple with details that add interest. A good size but maybe a tiny bit too small for everyday.

Cream satchel — Will never go out of style. Comes in multiple colors but I love this creamy hue the most for all seasons. A forever bag for sure.

Lotus shoulder bag — This one has been around for a while and has a more fun shape. It has popped up on my radar at multiple points over the last few years and I am always interested in the different colorways. Hangups include the openess of the top and trendy nature of the design, I feel like it may feel dated in a few years time.

Tan bucket bag — Another one that has already had a moment, but I still love it. I feel like I’m always circling around Celine when it comes to the handbag hunt. It’s a longstanding problem, haha. I feel like this design is classic and will outlive the bucket bag trend.
