What’s In My Makeup Bag

It’s been a while since I’ve worn make up consistently. Lately I’ve gotten back into the habit of sprucing myself up a bit in the morning. It’s not a full face of makeup, definitely very minimal and not the same as my old routine, but it’s something, ha! It helps me feel refreshed and makes me happy and that’s what’s important, right? So I thought I would share a few of the products I’m currently using.

My friend Mary-Katherine got me into clean beauty, so over the last year or so I’ve been seeking out cleaner, non-toxic alternatives to replace the empties in my makeup bag. One of the brands that I have really loved so far is Ilia. I currently use their mascara, multi-stick for blush, and eyebrow gel. The mascara definitely takes some getting used to, the first couple of uses I was not sold but once I got it down (two coats for me) I haven’t looked back. The eyebrow gel is so easy to apply and always looks really natural which I love. Both my eyelashes and eyebrows are a lot lighter than the rest of my natural hair color so I rely on both in order for them to be fully visible, ha! The multi-stick blush is a newer to me product. I’ve only been using it for about a month now. It gives a really natural color, like you are not even wearing it, and lasts throughout the day. It also has yet to make me break out so that is also positive. Sometimes there are products that my skin does just not agree with, which is always less than fun to figure out.

I have also added a few non-clean beauty products to the lineup. This definitely has me feeling conflicted, but I’m also pretty excited about them. Before I stopped wearing makeup regularly it was a rare occasion when I was putting on eyeliner. Sometimes I need a little bit more definition and I didn’t want anything too harsh. I picked up this eyeliner eyeshadow hybrid in Contour Beige and it has struck the perfect balance of just enough to really open my eyes. I also picked up this eyeshadow which gives such a lovely, brightening shimmer. I am a fan of both!

And finally I could not wrap up a beauty post without mentioning the best hair brush! I discovered this brush through Kendall just as I was looking for something to replace my detangling comb that broke and could not be more pleased with this one! My hair has the tendency to get super tangled and takes forever to comb out after showers. This brush has not only cut down on that time, but it has been so gentle on my hair. Postpartum hair loss has me being extra cautious when it comes to breakage the last few months! This brush is also so easy to clean — the hair lifts right out and you can even use it in the shower to comb in conditioner. I love it! I have both the original size and the larger size and find that the larger brush gets through my hair easier. I would say my hair is a normal thickness, but it did get very thick while I was pregnant so will have to report back on the smaller brush once my hair returns to normal.
