Transitional pieces are the bread and butter of my wardrobe. I’m a creature of habit so any item of clothing that can bridge the seasons is instantly a forever favorite and falls into regular rotation. I joke sometimes that I feel like a cartoon character — wearing the same things over and over again. But, when you find something you like and it works, why not wear it often? Clothing should make you feel your very best after all.
As we are inching closer to fall and all of the cozy scenes it brings to mind I wanted to round up some of my personal favorites that I lean on to help me ease into the new season ahead.
Denim jacket — A denim jacket is a timeless staple in my opinion. The right silhouette will become a forever favorite and will never go out of style. I bought this sherpa lined denim jacket last year and have gotten so much use out of it already. It’s actually from the men’s section. I wanted more of an oversized, boxy look and find that women’s cuts are sometimes too fitted for my liking. This one has been perfect and since it is their classic cut it will never go out of style.
Square neck tank — Another classic closet staple. I have had this one for years in both black and white and reach for them often.
Converse — In all seriousness, I have had my black pair of since high school. The white pair just as long I think though they got more wear through my early twenties improv days. This past spring I added this gorgeous off-white parchment color. It is the most perfect shade and is truly season-less in my opinion. Looking forward to pairing them with all of the oversized sweaters my heart can handle coming up.
Striped sweater — I love a striped sweater, as noted here. I have a few and just ordered this one (Totême vibes for a lot less fyi). Striped sweaters make the best transitional pieces. I consider them season-less but they truly are perfect making the jump from summer to fall. There is something about a striped knit in the summer that is just so good. This one is back in stock this season in navy, a sign that it’s a good one.
Classic denim — As temps cool off a bit a simple pair of jeans reenters regular rotation. I bought this pair over the winter and am so excited to bring them into fall. They have a really great shape and pair well with so many things.
As much as I love fall, I sometimes have a tough time letting go of summer. Having these basics on hand really helps ease me into the change of season.
