As we get closer to the start of spring and temperatures tease us here in the northeast I am tempted to move on directly to the next season and begin sharing the pieces I have been saving as I build my spring/summer wishlist. There is still some winter ahead of us though and while we have been dealt a mild season so far this year, there is still time. So before we start chatting about all things warm weather, I wanted to share my top five favorite fall/winter purchases. Most of them I would consider season-less or transitional pieces anyway.
Let’s get to it.
Pointelle tee — I added this sweet tee to my closet a few months back and have been wearing it, as well as the tank version at least once a week. I love an elevated basic. The pointelle detail helps to liven up a simple look, like right now as I’m spending the majority of my time in leggings, ha.
New Balance Sneakers — Call it what you want, pregnancy, lifestyle changes, etc. but I cannot tell you how much I love these things. They have been my most worn shoe since the day they arrived.
Rosae Scarf Coat — We all love the Toteme scarf coat, that much is clear. But, with the whipstitch trim and vast popularity it is a piece I have been hesitant about splurging on. To me, it seems like one that could feel dated much sooner than I would like for it to be. It could of course, become a wardrobe staple that becomes timeless. Only time will tell. A coat with an attached scarf has a lot of appeal to me. My grandmother ingrained in me the need to always cover my neck in the winter and I still hear her voice reminding me to do so. A coat that always has a scarf with it makes sense to me. I found this one from Rosae by way of instagram and immediately fell in love. It has a classic silhouette that has been roomy enough for the bump, is 100% wool, and lined. One note, I have this coat in black (also comes in cream and camel) and it does seem to be a dog hair magnet which drives me up the wall. I am still working on a solution for how to combat that.
J Crew Men’s Crew Sweater — After searching high and low for a simple oversized wool sweater at a reasonable price point I was influenced by Dana of It’s Casual to make this purchase. So many of the women’s sweaters I found cost three times as much and were not 100% wool. I just couldn’t stomach the idea of paying upwards of $300 for a sweater that wasn’t exactly what I was looking for. I ordered a size large for a very oversized fit and roll the sleeves up. I figured worst case scenario it would fit JD but it ended up working perfectly and has been my most worn sweater this season.
Ribbed Align Leggings — Going back to elevated basics, I love these ribbed leggings. The original aligns have been a long time favorite for me so when I saw these, and in the very color I had been looking for it was a done deal. I would however recommend sizing down, I think they run a little big.
