Little Things Bringing Me Joy This Last Week

Hi everyone. July has not been off to the start I had hoped for. This last week was tough. JD tested positive for Covid on Monday after we returned from the holiday weekend. He was a bit sniffly in the car on the way home and something in the pit of my stomach just knew. I asked him to take a test when we arrived home and there it was, an immediate dark red line before the second even had time to appear. Masks on and figuring out the logistics of how we were going to manage this in our tiny city apartment it was.

Given the location of all of the baby necessities Goldie and I took the bedroom and JD had the living room. Finn chose to quarantine with him so we were equally divided. It was very hard keeping her entertained in such a limited space, and while also working. I took a few meetings in the bathroom during naps and relied heavily on my airpods. I’m so happy I ordered them when I did. Big yikes if I had not.

JD had symptoms for two days – minor congestion that he said pre pandemic he wouldn’t have noticed and felt back to normal all days following. He was also prescribed medication so we will never know how much worse it could have gotten. I am just so thankful that he had such minor symptoms, was able to get the care he needed, and made such a speedy recovery. Thankfully, luckily, somehow Goldie and I were able to avoid getting sick.

If anything became abundantly clear last week it is that we need more space. We have been going back and forth for a while about when the time will come when we need to move and after this last week that time feels like it’s coming sooner than later. Manifesting our dream home into existence — let’s go! And the part where we figure out where it is located, maybe a bigger challenge than originally thought.

All of this had me seeking out simple joys as I nervously waited for the days to pass and for the results of each rapid and pcr test.

Little things bringing me joy this last week

Streaming services
I binge watched a few series during nap times and before bed and tried my best not to laugh too loud watching Kristen Bell pour an entire bottle of wine into her glass every single time she opened one in The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window (Netflix).

Audiobooks
I will admit that my audiobook infatuation has slowed, but I know that it is more specific to my book of the moment which is Pride and Prejudice. I love every film made based on Jane Austen’s books. I know each story well. But for some reason whenever I have ever sat down to read any of them I am instantly asleep. I thought maybe having it read to me via audiobook would help, but it has unfortunately been a very slow process and I find myself mostly picturing the movie scenes as we progress. Still a spot of joy.

Our daily walks
Since I was testing negative as per the CDC we were allowed to leave the apartment for our afternoon walks. I wore my mask and we did our quiet loops, avoiding the busier areas of the park. I took her by the dog run a few times so we could watch the puppies play as she missed Finny desperately.

Cupcakes from Billy’s
A big big joyful treat was stopping in to Billy’s Bakery to pick up cupcakes one afternoon post negative pcr #2. I took three in all spaced out, I was so nervous. I got cookies and cream which was a special — so good! Goldie and Finn split a raspberry citrus. And JD had one of their amazing chocolate chip cookie buttercream sandwiches.

Our terrace
I feel like this one is more for JD but if we did not have a little bit of outdoor space for JD and Finn to hang out in a place other than the couch. And me today when it was too hot to go on our walk. Whenever it’s too hot for a walk we water the plants and play chase the baby out there for a few.

Going to cap it here because five is a nice neat number for a round up of little joys. I hope that your week is off to a good start and that you and your loved ones are healthy and safe. And as always, thank you so much for reading. It means the world that you are here.

xx
