Letter from the Editor 07.23

And then it was July. High summer, a month of change.

A few notes —

My maternity leave is drawing to a close and I’ve been feeling so many emotions about it. It feels as if Isabel was only born last week and not nineteen. So much has happened and so much will continue to. I want my babies to grow, but I also want to freeze time.

Last week we said goodbye to my sister’s beloved American Bulldog Paisley, Puppy Dog as Eleanor most recently named her. It is the end of an era, and one of the hardest goodbyes of my life. To say she was a special dog is just the tip of it. Paisley was love, kindness, and patience — the most special girl. We miss her immensely.

The theme of the summer so far has been self care and enjoying the little things. I bought myself a dry brush and a gua sha and have been taking my time when I can to make myself feel like myself again. Life is busy with two little ones. I have also started having a matcha latte when I treat myself to a coffee run and wanted to note here as I have noticed that I don’t get that big crash or boost of anxiety like I do with coffee. Am I ready to make this a part of my at home ritual like the daily smoothie? No, probably not, but am considering given my current level of exhaustion.

I’m excited to get into a new routine with the little ones and work. It’s going to be a balancing act, but I have help and support now and a door to close to my very own office that is slowly coming together so there will be limited screaming in the background of my meetings.

And finally — let’s chat about new apps! I was all on board for the Lemon8 craze that came about in April and quickly fizzled out. Now there is Threads, which I’m giving a try. It’s kind of fun to have these new apps and play around with my creativity. I like the diary nature of Lemon8 and have enjoyed finding so many creators that I’ve never come across on other platforms. I like the feeling of wanting to share the thoughts that pop into my head via Threads. I was never a Twitter girl but have always enjoyed reading roundups of funny Tweets. This is pretty much the same thing, right? Well I’m giving it a try. My only concern here is that it will become the same confined bubble that Instagram currently is. I also created a TikTok account…

Halfway through June I got frustrated with myself and my lack of personal style. Postpartum is hard. My body has taken longer to get back to “normal” this time, which has left me in a lazy uniform of leggings and tees and/or oversized knits. So I challenged myself to get dressed for the remainder of the month, which I actually did for all but two days. It was really hard at first, getting to know my wardrobe and body again. The chaos that is the laundry and of having misplaced a good portion of my Spring/Summer clothes in the move certainly did not help. I have since located the missing box fyi and have allowed myself to dip back into the leggings drawer, but I created a TikTok account where I am going to start sharing my outfits every single day. It is going to start as a challenge to do it every day for 30 days. Now all I need to do is start posting haha.

You can follow me on all these apps at the following @’s —

That is all for now, I hope your July is off to a good start.
