Inspiration for Isabel’s Nursery

The next room on my list to design is Isabel’s nursery, which she will be moving in to at the end of the month. We have her paint color selected and ready to go, as well as her crib. The other elements have been slowly falling into place. I have been dreaming up this space since before Eleanor was born. She never had a true nursery, more of a nook in our bedroom, due to space constraints so I have had plenty of time to think about what the nursery could be when the time came.

It should come as absolutely no surprise at all that my plans for this room are all neutral in tone.

This is the crib we purchased for her. I like that it can grow with her, converting to a toddler bed and then becoming a headboard if we choose. I don’t know if that is what we will end up doing, but it is a definite perk to have the option.

These curtains have served major inspiration for the rest of the room. As soon as I laid eyes on them the vision came together. They are so dramatic and remind me of summer in an Italian villa overlooking the sea, or what I imagine that might feel like. Timeless with a breath of whimsy. I love them. They also come in a variety of colors. I personally love the blue to match her eyes, but the pink is also sweet, and there is a nice lavender, and a sage green that is notoriously hard for me to resist. I’ll need to see them all in person before making the final call.

The rug is one I have had saved for years. Originally I thought I would like to put it our bedroom but the nursery feels like the right spot.

We are unsure if the girls will share a room down the line. They are close in age and adore each other, they may want to. So, the plan is to get them matching toy boxes. This rattan one immediately caught my eye. It reminds me of something I would have had as a child and something that comes close to matching the hamper that was mine when I was little that currently sits in Eleanor’s room. They also have a lounge set with chairs and a table to match that belonged to my sisters in law. It just fits the vibe so perfectly.

Then this dresser. I am in a phase right now where I want a simple design with minimal hardware. Could it be because we recently broke a few of the pulls off of their current dresser? Absolutely. We are painting the nursery a warm, creamy white and I think that the darker color of this dresser would compliment it nicely.

And pretty lighting, always a hot topic for me. I would love to find vintage pieces for all of the bedrooms. Checking out estate sales is about to become a sport for me. In the meantime, I found this cute chandelier that gives vintage murano vibes for a less insane price point.

On a side note — incase you are curious, the hunt for the perfect palmette chandelier for our entryway is on. And I think I have a lead on where to find it (that isn’t 1stDibs lol).
