Lately all I have been wanting to do is buy myself new clothes. That feels a bit silly being that I am currently 8 months pregnant, likely not leaving the apartment very often for a while, and unsure of what my postpartum body will look like. Since the pandemic began last March (can you believe we are coming up on a full year?) I have been very selective with my purchases. As much as I love to shop, I haven’t picked up very many pieces of clothing. It is true that I have added a few items to my collection as needed, but my main focus has been on essentials and home goods.
My approach to personal style is all about longevity and I’m happy to report that my closet has held up just fine during this strange season of life. I’m actually a bit shocked that I haven’t wanted to add much to it during pregnancy as well but hey, my affinity for the oversized look is finally paying off – though it is definitely much more of a fitted look these days, ha!
As the nesting and baby prep has been in full force these last few months, I have been doing a lot of thinking recently about my wardrobe and what my goal for the warmer seasons will be this year. We are hopeful that things will be improving and that we may even feel comfortable venturing out to a restaurant this summer. High on my list is picking up some to go cocktails should they come back, after Baby B’s arrival! And I have the biggest dreams of pushing the stroller up to the garden in Riverside Park this Spring. Last year we went on a walk where I found this absolutely gorgeous flower and have been daydreaming about walking up there on a warm Spring day to show Baby B.
I always love the idea of a capsule collection. In a lot of ways my closet is similar to one as I’m so picky about adding pieces to it. Creating a collection of quality, timeless pieces you can wear a hundred different ways is key in my book. It might seem boring at times, but you’ll never run out of outfit options with a solid foundation, and it makes it so much easier to incorporate fun new trends as well. So I thought it would be fun to put together a capsule collection for Spring, filled with plenty of staples to mix and match while staying on trend.
gray tee // white tee // handbag // linen baseball cap // shirt jacket // printed skirt // yellow sweater // t shirt dress // sunglasses // cream cardigan // white linen pants // relaxed denim // cashmere wrap scarf // belt // sneakers
Notes:
the tees
I own and love both of these tees. I have the gray one in multiple colors and usually size up one for a more relaxed fit. The white tee is a newer purchase I scored on sale for less than half price this winter and has a really great boxy crop fit. I cannot wait to wear it with high waisted denim shorts this summer!
the sweaters
H&M has long been a favorite stop for me to shop for sweaters. I’ve found that they hold up really well and you can’t beat the price point. Some of my favorite sweaters I’ve had for such a long time and they are always in rotation. Lately with the bump I have been all about cardigans as they’re easy to layer. This cream one is a no brainer for me, and I love love love the soft yellow of this pullover. It’s currently sitting in my cart as I continue to debate if it’ll look okay with my current level of paleness or if it needs to be a summer, tan only thing for me.
the t shirt dress
A timeless classic in my book! Easy to throw on and go for more casual days and perfect for transitioning between seasons as you can layer as much or as little as needed. I also cannot get enough of this cool blue-green color lately and am thinking it will be a perfect postpartum transitional piece too.
the printed skirt
“Florals, for Spring?” I love the sweet print and color on this skirt and the smocked waistline seems pretty appealing right about now as well. This is a more trendy piece for sure, but I think given the style and ever popular print it has a good amount of longevity too.
the white linen pants
How many years have wide leg white pants been on my wishlist? I stopped counting, but it’s been a while let me tell you. I haven’t found the perfect fit yet but have heard amazing things about this pair. As soon as I have an idea of sizing I plan to order – fingers crossed they are still in stock then! I have heard they’re known to sell out quite quickly.
the denim
I’ve heard the word and do not care one bit what Gen Z thinks about my choice in pants. That being said, the last few years I have been gravitating towards more relaxed fits when it comes to denim and pants in general. While I still refuse to wear loungewear outside of the comfort of my home, I have become a creature of comfort and love styles that feel easy and well, a bit more comfortable to wear. I debated buying this pair all last year, said I’d do it when I went back to the office. That hasn’t happened, but I am officially overdue for a new pair of jeans so I will be purchasing sometime soonish.
the shirt jacket
I picked up this shirt jacket in black boucle in the fall and honestly couldn’t love it more. Now I’m looking to add a more Springy version, particularly the one pictured above to my closet. At first I was on the fence about this style, it reminds me of a ’90s dad look too much sometimes, but it really has grown on me. I like how simple the style is and how it can be worn in a multitude of ways.
the accessories
I own the older version of this handbag in tan and have been looking to add the black version of it to my collection for years. It’s another one of those “was going to buy for the office” things that got put on hold. If and when I am in the market for a new bag again this baby will be it. I am also in love with this beauty from Khaite!
These sunglasses are currently in my cart. I dream of wearing them for family hang outs on the deck once the weather warms up! Just think, by the end of this month the sun will be setting after 7pm again. We’re getting closer!
This linen baseball cap was on my list last year, but sadly sold out before I could get to it. Will not be making that mistake again this year! I know that such a light color might not be the best option for me personally, but I just love it and think it will be very versatile – and a good way to hide whatever situation will be going on with my hair in general, ha!
A few items already in my closet are this belt, a similar wear with anything and great for travel (remember that concept?) wrap scarf, and these sneakers which I cannot wait to wear. I have this pair of the Esplar style and while I have yet to wear the Campos out and about just yet, they feel so much more comfortable! The tongue for one is a lot less stiff, the leather feels much higher quality, and there is some arch support too so I feel like they will be much easier to break in than my older pair. I’ll have to report back when I’ve formed an official opinion. In the meantime, I’ll just say I am obsessed with the pretty mint color and think it will play well with most items in my closet while adding a fun little pop of color as well.
That just about sums it up for now. What is on your Spring style list?
