Books We Love for Little Ones

In the beginning of December I started letting E choose which book we would read every night before bedtime. I would present three Christmas themed stories and each night she would look at the covers and place her hand on one of them. Reading had been a struggle for us up until this point. She was still too squirmy to make it through most books and I thought maybe giving her a choice would help keep her engaged for a tiny bit longer. Sometimes it worked, other times not so much, but she really seemed to enjoy selecting what to read. We still do this to this day, I present a few different options and let her choose which adventure we go on before bedtime. Of course, she still squirms away some nights.

I really enjoy this time together each night, and I think she does too. Books make such an excellent gift for children. Our shelves are filled with them. And so I wanted to note some of E’s favorites that she regularly selects for herself as part of our bedtime routine.

Below is our usual rotation and a few seasonal/holiday favorites!

Goodnight Moon

You're My Little Cuddle Bug

Little Blue Truck

This is the very first book we read together. We love looking for the mouse on each page like I did with my Grandma when I was little.

Short and sweet. Perfect for those nights where we cannot sit through anything too long.

One of the first books we read together. One of her favorites.

Little Blue Truck's Valentine

Little Blue Truck's Springtime

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

She loves the shiny cards on each page. Of all the Little Blue Truck books this one is her favorite.

This is a lift-the-flap book and she loves opening each one.

There was a period of time where we read this book every single night. I can recite it by heart.

There's a Dragon in Your Book

There's a Monster in Your Book

Hello, Whale!

This is such a great interactive book! It keeps her entertained and engaged the whole way through. We read this one more often when we're playing.

Same as with the Dragon book this keeps little ones engaged the entire time. I was a bit hesitant about introducing "monsters" but this is cute and not at all scary.

This was a Nana find. It's a lift-the-flap book that has tons of facts about ocean creatures, not a story. She loves all of the colors and for now, I do the learning.

Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree

Pick a Pine Tree

The Night Before Christmas

A very cute story! She makes it through this one most of the time as well.

She really loves this one — it's probably her favorite holiday book. She stays engaged the whole story.

I'm pretty sure she just likes the pictures in this one, but I never mind reading it to her.
