It’s hard not to be influenced with the constant flow of social media, especially as we’re spending so much of our time at home. There are so many things to discover in a quick five minute scroll, it certainly can be overwhelming and even a little alarming or unpleasant. Way back in the day when I first discovered blogging, before the mass sponsoring of posts – we’ve all seen 40 posts in a row advertising the same set of pajamas on the same day – there were so many people wearing the same exact thing to the point where you had to wonder if that striped skirt really was the stuff of dreams or if everyone was trying to follow a formula for success. The skirt was cute, though I didn’t buy it, and most of those girls wearing it have made successful careers out of their platforms so maybe a bit of both? Ever since then I knew that that formula wasn’t right for me. Maybe it was a mistake on my part to go my own way as I’m fairly confident there is no one is reading this, but I really like the idea of sharing things you truly love and enjoy and having a bit of a unique flair to your style. And by no means am I calling my personal style unique, I am fully aware that I tend to like popular things that a lot of people are also wearing.
Where am I going with this? I just try to be a bit more conscious about the things I am being influenced to buy. I’m sure we have all been burned before too. A few years ago I bought a pair of lounge pants from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale that a blogger I really like was raving about, she even said she was going back and getting them in a second color because they were that good. These pants were garbage. Pilled almost immediately, like within an hour of wear, and were just overall terrible quality. But for all of those misses, there have been a lot of things I have been introduced to by influencers that have been really great finds. That being said, I thought it might be fun to share some of the things that I have purchased at the recommendation of an influencer and chat a little about why I love them.
01. Gigi Clozeau Beaded Bracelet
Influenced by Somewhere Lately
I absolutely love this bracelet and am so happy to have discovered it through Meggan and Brooke. I feel like I am constantly wanting to scoop up all of their recommendations. I had been looking for a simple, every day bracelet for a long time and wanted to purchase one as a gift to myself to commemorate a very special moment in my life. I’m a huge fan of dainty jewelry and wanted something that would blend with everything I wear on a daily basis and hold up over time both in craftsmanship and style. I have been wearing this bracelet just about every single day since October 2019 and not only do I love it even more now, but it looks just as perfect as the day I first put it on.
02. 10 Foot USB Charging Cable
Influenced by Styled Snapshots
iPhone charging cables are not made to last. There, I said it. I read about this braided charging cable in a roundup of Amazon favorites on Kendall’s blog and quickly thereafter clicked “add to cart”. The cable that came with my phone was falling apart at the base where it connects to the phone, requiring me to perform a balancing act to get it to charge properly. Aside from the extra 7 ft of cable, it is also braided which adds some protection to the wires inside so they break less often. We own of two of these now and have for over a year without any issues or need for replacement.
03. Spanx Faux Leather Leggings
Influenced by See Anna Jane
Last fall Anna wrote an entire blog post about these pants and how like me, she had put off giving them a try because everyone had them and could they really be that good? Turns out she concluded they were and I decided to cave and purchase during a sale shortly after. Let me tell you she was not wrong. I reach for these leggings way more than I thought I would. They go with pretty much everything and are comfortable on top of it all! I am currently considering buying myself a second pair, that is how often I’m wearing them these days.
04. Tan Luxe Drops
Influenced by Cella Jane
I used to love laying out in the sun but aside from that being a terrible choice for the overall heath of my skin, the fact that my skin burns multiple times before it holds a tan is also a major issue. For years I’ve been slathering on sunscreen and ignoring my sometimes extreme paleness. Enter the tan drops craze that has swept the blogging world. I have been curious about this for so long and after reading up on all of the brands and products on the market took Becky’s recommendation and bought the Tan Luxe drops. Skeptical as I was (there was definitely a way I was going to mess this up and end up a streaky disaster, right?) I decided to give it a try since I wasn’t going anywhere anyway and have not looked back. It really is as easy as they say, you just mix a few drops in with your lotion and wait as they to go to work. There has been no color transfer to my clothes or bedding and the “tan” fades very gradually so it’s not like you wake up one morning and its gone or only on half of your arm. I went with the shade light/medium and feel the results have been very natural looking. I also got a few of my family members hooked!
05. Tretorn Meg Sneakers
Influenced by The Girl Guide
Not sure exactly what it is/was about the quarantine lifestyle that created such an intense desire for me to have shoes I don’t need to think about putting on or taking off for more than half a second, but I am so happy I found these. I ended up buying them in “sand” because I thought they would go with more items in my wardrobe and wore them almost every single day well into the fall. If we are talking about cost per wear I should probably owe Tretorn for these things by now. Worth every penny and cannot wait to wear them again next Spring and Summer. Maybe I’ll even pick up a new pair in white.
So curious what purchases you have been “influenced” to make and how they turned out. Leave a comment down below and let me know.
