Dressing Up Casual Pieces

Zara White Lace Top

I’m the kind of girl who likes to be dressed appropriately for wherever I’m headed. If there is one thing about my approach to getting dressed in the morning that has been unwavering through the years it is this, which can be tricky, especially when you don’t know the dress code, or where your day is headed! Because of this, over time I’ve learned to pair pieces that are a bit more dressy with casual ones to create transitional looks to take you from day to night without looking out of place.

One of my favorite pairings lately has been this white lace top with a pair of girlfriend jeans. I think the sweetness of the lace mixed with looser fitting denim strikes a nice balance of casual and polish. I have worn this look so many times over the last few weeks – out to dinner on Shelter Island a few weekends ago (pictured here!), on a few recent date nights, and out to dinner with friends in Brooklyn. To switch things up a bit, I’ve been swapping these patent leather flats for tan ankle boots every other time!

Sadly this top is old, I picked it up from Zara last winter, so I’ve linked a bunch of similar options at various price points below! My jeans are from American Eagle and are still available in a similar wash. And the BEST part, I snagged these timeless patent leather Aquazzura flats for a steal at sample sale in my neighborhood that I luckily walked past at the right moment! I love that they look like a heel when on but are comfortable enough to wear all day/night, this is so important, especially when you live in a city where walking is a requirement if you’re going anywhere! The patent version appears to be older so I linked the current suede version below and a quick note on sizing – I ended up sizing down half a size from my normal!
